When Microsoft released the Surface 2-in-1 Detachable PC and related accessories, they chose to use new selling channels and distribution methods. The company’s applied its standard planning processes, which were optimized for selling enterprise software, not the new hardware products and retail channels. Microsoft saw an opportunity to create appropriate forecasting and inventory planning processes, designed specifically for their new business
